Our client is a world leader in scientific research, they build products and services that allow scientific researchers to answer questions about the biology of people, plants, animals, pathogens and environments.
We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Ruby Developer to join the digital team to carry out software development on our customer-facing web applications and integrate with business-critical commercial systems.
As a Senior Ruby Developer, you will work alongside other Developers and Testers to ensure project deadlines are met and the code deployed is robust and high quality. You will ensure that all development is well architected, secure, scalable and thoroughly documented.
Senior Ruby Developers should be comfortable demonstrating skills and experience in the following areas:
Ruby on Rails development experience (to a Senior level)
Proficient experience with REST API development
Experience integrating with 3rd-party services
Automated testing
Knowledge of code versioning tools such as Git, Mercurial or SVN
Web applications and services
It would also be desirable if you had any of the following:
AWS provisioning and management
BDD, TDD and any automated testing (or design by testing) methodology
Agile/Extreme Programming development experienced
Front-end programming languages and frameworks (e.g: JS, Typescript, Vue.js, React)
Understanding and implementation of security and data protection
Integrations with SalesForce, D365 and Algolia search engine
An understanding of enterprise infrastructure and developing trends
Other Responsibilities Include
Maintaining quality and ensuring the responsiveness of applications
Collaborating with the rest of the Digital and Business System team to design and launch new features
Developing commercial quality software
Analysing and documenting business requirements
Fully testing systems before UAT
Fault finding and resolving issues
Working with senior stakeholder to understand business priorities and updating them on progress
First call resolution for digital environment/customer-facing issues
Managing business-critical projects
This role will best suit an ambitious Ruby Developer with prior experience in a development role within an enterprise/commercial environment, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a solutions-orientated problem-solving attitude.
